I Hate Seattle

What is with these people and their dogs?

Have you ever noticed how people in Seattle put their drooling, crapping, barking little dogs up on a pedestal?

They'll say things like "[Their] dog is loyal, never argues, provides unconditional love and support, is kind, obedient, blah, blah, bah." Usually leading up to this gem "and is smarter and better than most people."

This bears analysis:
Never argues
Unconditional support
Obedient

Sounds more like the characteristics of a slave than a companion to me.

"Is kind,"
Really? I wonder if that person realizes that, if left to their own devices, dogs will just eat, snarl, and piss on everything in sight. In fact, it would only be a matter of days before most dogs would turn on their owners if food were scarce.

"Is smarter than most people?" You'd have to be pretty fucking stupid to say something like that. For example, can your dog do even simple math? Ask it what color a stop sign is: it doesn't know. In fact, a dog would be considered a genius among its species if it could master opening a beer bottle.

What it really is: People in Seattle hate other people but are still afraid to be alone. So, they get a pet and project all of these perfect, unrealistic qualities onto it. It's not about the pet; it's about them, their ego, and their insecurity.

By the way, this is not a dog-hater thread. I think dogs are great animals -- just not to the point that I'd shun human contact and resort to making inane remarks like "my dog is smarter than most people." All things being relative, maybe your dog is smarter than the average Seattleite, but that's no reason to denigrate everyone else.
